What the next five years hold for us
We’re entering an exciting chapter, with big changes on the horizon that will help us deliver even better care and work more effectively together.
One of the most transformative developments is the launch of our new electronic patient record system, Epic, in 2026. This will connect us with other NHS organisations across Devon, making it easier to share information, streamline patient pathways, and improve the experience for everyone who uses our services.

Alongside this, our Digital Futures programme is empowering clinicians and digital professionals to co-create innovative solutions tailored to their own pathways—so expect to see some brilliant ideas come to life!
We’re also investing in our estate.
A £14.2 million wrap-around extension for the Emergency Department at Torbay Hospital is already underway and due for completion later this year. Refurbishment work at St Edmunds in Torquay is progressing too. While our major construction work as part of the New Hospital Programme is scheduled for the 2030s, we’re actively exploring funding options to address urgent infrastructure needs now—making our buildings safer, more efficient and fit for the future.

As the way we deliver care evolves, so will the way we work. New roles, new opportunities, and new ways of collaborating across Devon are opening up. We’re committed to making sure our people feel heard, seen, and valued—with the space to innovate, create, and care with compassion.
And we won’t be doing it alone. We’ll be working more closely than ever with our partners—not just within the NHS, but also with local authorities, voluntary groups, and community organisations. Because the challenges we face can’t be solved by one person, one team, or one organisation. But together? We’re stronger, and we can do more—for everyone.
